Trump Alleges Election Irregularities in California Primary Races
In one message, Trump wrote, “The Dumocrats are at it again! They are trying to STEAL THE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA PRIMARY, AND THE MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, PRIMARY, AWAY FROM TWO GREAT REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES.”
He also criticized the continued counting of absentee ballots, stating, “Here we go with the very late and massive numbers of MAIL IN BALLOTS.”
In a separate post, Trump alleged, “There’s BIG cheating by the Dumocrats in California. Votes are all tied up. May not be in for weeks. Under investigation by the US Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Why the vote counting DELAY???”
The remarks followed primary elections held Tuesday in six US states ahead of the November midterm elections. California’s contests have attracted particular attention as voters determine which candidates will advance in the race to succeed the state's current governor.
According to reported vote totals available early Thursday, Republican candidate Steve Hilton led the gubernatorial field with 27.6% of the vote, followed by Xavier Becerra with 25.6%. At that stage, approximately 56% of ballots had been counted.
In the Los Angeles mayoral race, incumbent Karen Bass secured the highest share of votes with 35%, earning a place in the November general election. However, the identity of her runoff opponent had not yet been finalized.
Reports showed Republican candidate Spencer Pratt, who has received support from Trump, holding 30.4% of the vote, while Nithya Raman stood close behind with 29.9%. Roughly 62% of ballots had been processed at the time of reporting.
The ongoing vote count in both races has kept attention focused on California as election officials continue tabulating remaining ballots.
